Captains Log December 07′
The fishing this late fall for Trophy Sized Striped Bass (Rockfish) has been consistantly excellent since the day after Thanksgiving. In fact I would have to say this has been the best late fall the mid Bay has seen in 5 to 6 years. Over the last few weeks, on our slowest day we still caught our boat limit for the day of 7 Stripers. Every other day the question is how many Trophies did we toss back after we were limited out. Some days we landed over thirty Trophy sized Striped Bass. Multiple hook ups have been common. We have also seen two big fish on one line several times this Fall. It really doesn’t get much better!!!!!!!! Since the MD season closed on December 15th we have been fishing VA waters (only 14 miles from Point Lookout Marina). VA waters have been just as productive as MD waters were earlier this month. The PICS below showcase how awesome the fishing has been over the last few weeks.
We will be fishing aboard the MISS SUSIE from Point Lookout Marina in Ridge, MD through the end of the year. Then we will be heading south on my other, larger, newer boat the “FIN FINDER” to fish the VA Beach Winter Striped Bass Season. The fishing out of Rudeee’s Inlet, VA late December, January, and February is simply amazing. In fact, the waters off of VA Beach, VA serve as wintering grounds for close to the entire East Coast Stock of Adult Migratory Striped Bass. The massive schools of baitfish called Menhaden serve to keep the Stripers feeding all winter. With so much bait and so many Trophy Stripers in the area at the same time, the fishing action is truely world class. We are offering a package deal, in order to offer our customers a great fishing get-away at a reasonable price. Our package includes the following……….
An afternoon charter departing around noon
A morning charter departing just before first light on the following day
The tip for the mate on both trips
Fish cleaning (Ocean regs allow 2 Stripers over 28inches per person/per day)
Three hotel rooms with two beds per room for the night after the PM charter
All of this for just $330 per person for six passengers. Because of US Coast Guard Ocean rules, we can only carry six passengers. Don’t miss your chance to experience Trophy Striper fishing at its best. Pick from the dates below and give Capt. Greg Buckner a call today……

Solomons Island Area
By Greg Buckner, Captain of the “Miss Susie“
The Fall Trophy Rockfishing the last few weeks has been simply amazing!!!! Some Falls getting a limit of Rockfish over 28 inches is a good day. This year, every day since Thanksgiving, it has been a question of how many Trophy Rockfish are we going to catch and release once our limit is in the box, just to make the trip last a litte longer. This past Wednesday we landed 26 Rockfish over 30 inches by 9:30 AM as an example. Multiple hook ups have been common and action has been really good. The fishing as good as it is right now reminds me of the way Fall Trophy fishing was 5 or 6 years ago, when the Fall fishing was as good or better than the Spring Trophy fishing.
The bite up closer to Solomons was slower today, we still captured our limit, it just took a while. However, the bite just below the VA line was red hot today, just as it has been for two weeks. Because of the slowing bite out of Solomons and the Hot bite in VA waters, we are going to start fishing out of Point Lookout Marina in Ridge, MD tomorrow. This port allows us to be much closer to where the fishing is the best right now. Because the bite has been so good in the Bay this Fall, we will be fishing out of Point Lookout through the rest of 2007. We still have some open dates for this great fishing…..
December: 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31
