March 10th @7am Miss Susie II, III & IV and their crews will begin our 2025 Spring Blue Catfishing Season!
Last spring the bite was not up to our standards departing from Goose Bay Marina, so this Spring we will be departing from 55 miles further up the Potomac River. This big move will have us targeting the Maryland Upper Tidal Potomac River (Wilson Bridge Sector) which will have us fishing on Way More and Way Larger Blue Catfish that what the 301 Bridge Sector of the Potomac River yielded Spring of 2024. A few years in a row with below average rainfall has made the water near Goose Bay Marina/301 Bridge much saltier and while Blue Cats can handle a fair amount of salinity it is not their preference. On top of the higher salinity, the commercial fishing efforts via gill nets, trot lines, and fish traps/pots in the Goose Bay area and just up river are extensive and is believed to have an impact on the lower numbers of Blue Catfish in the 301 sector of the Potomac River in 2024 as well. In fact the total Blue Catfish commercial Landings in the Potomac River have remained stable over the past 10 years, yet effort has gone up immensely. This means even with significantly more commercial anglers targeting Blue Catfish the total catch remains about the same. Considering the Blue Catfish are considered an invasive species this is a very good thing. No doubt, without heavy commercial efforts, the Potomac River and her fisheries would be in big trouble. But we at Miss Susie Charters want more and bigger fish and better consistency for our Clients. Thus the big more up river and we are excited to get after it! Hope to see you all this Spring, come catch some delicious, hard fighting invasive species with us! We will treat you right and your crew will have a blast!
Thank You,
Capt. Greg Buckner
