Point Lookout Area

Well the fishing continues to improve, it is now what I would consider excellent. And the best part of the story is that the fish are being caught in many different areas from a few miles north of Point Lookout all the way to the Bay Bridge Tunnel. And in many areas there are bites happening where it is what charter capts consider “wide open”. With multiple big fish hook ups at one time and lots of action. The fishing has been so good the last two days that I would say that it is as good as our Spring Trophy Season. In fact several other capts and myself agree that there appear to be more trophy Stripers in the lower Chesapeake Bay area this late Fall then we have seen in probably 4 or 5 years. And with pleanty of bait here to hold them in our area, fishing should continue to be very good for at least a few more weeks. We are also starting to see a few more of the Big Trophy fish. Yesterday we had two Trophies over 43″ . So don’t delay and pick a date today so you can load the freezer with fresh Rockfish fillets for the winter. Here are the dates that are still available……..

Point Lookout Area

This late fall season is turning out to be like most late fall trophy seasons. With good overall catches with some very good days and a few days where you need to put your time in to grind out 5 or 6 Trophy fish. We moved the MISS SUSIE to Point Lookout Marina on the 17th to be closer to where the best bites have been occurring. We will be fishing out of Point Lookout through December 17th. With trophy fish still being caught north of Point Lookout and other fish which seem to be working their way north in several areas from the Bridge Tunnel to Point Lookout, fishing should continue to be good and I believe it may even kick wide open over the next few weeks. The presence of pleanty of bait also makes the next few weeks look promising, because the fish have something to hold them here in our area. I have to apoligize for not taking as many photos as I should. I will try and snap a bunch more shots for my next report. There are still a few dates avialable to get out and catch your December trophy. So round up your fishing crew and lets go catch a box full of trophy rockfish. Here are the dates………..

Well the fishing certainly has improved. Today fishing was excellent!!! By 9:15 AM we had boated 6 Stripers over 37 inches with the largest being just under 40 inches. We had three of these trophy fish hooked up at one time today, it was just awesome. Once again the fish had sea lice on them (a sign that they are fresh from the Ocean). Several other good charter captains reported excellent catches also today, despite the dense fog. It looks like this late Fall may turn out to be much better than the last few late Novembers and Decembers. We cancelled for tomorrow(11/16/2006) because of the forcasted 30 knot winds from the South and we will be back at it Friday(11/17/2006). I only have a few select dates available for the rest of this Chesapeake Bay Season, here they are……………..

Well November has turned out so far to be like Novembers of years past. With some excellent fishing for a few days and then slow for a few days. The presence of the 18″ to 26″ fish helped us a few days to put some meat in the box when trolling for the “big boys” did not work out. On other days we went for the small fish (18″ to 26″) first and left a few slots open and then went after the “bubbas.” Tuesday Nov. 7th was our best day so far on the “bubbas”. That day we landed two fish that measured right at 48inches, one weighed 42lbs and the other weighed 41lbs. We also had some other nice fish from 20″ to 38″ that day. The wind did not allow us to do much on the 12th and the 13th. But we got out on Tuesday the 14th and had our limit for a small three person party by 11:00 AM, the fish measured between 24inches up to 38inches.
I believe that the Ocean Run fish (Migratory Stock) are just starting to arrive. Three of the fish we caught today had Sea Lice on them, so they have not been in the Bay long. As more and more of these fish work North, the fishing should improve daily. Several other boats also had good catches today (11/14/06), so things are looking up and as with all November and December trips that chance at a 50 pound plus fish is present at any time. We only have a few dates still available for fishing the Bay this Season. Those dates are……….

Late October has always been a time for change and this year is no exception, especially with much cooler temperatures. The live linning remained strong thru about the 23rd of October. On the 27th we switched over to trolling shallow water structure and had very good results finding Rockfish from 18inches to 32inches that were hungry and willing to bite. The 28th and 29th we fished in the Patuxent River because of high winds and scratched out our limit of 18″ to 24″ fish both days. We had Monday the 30th off and today (10/31/06) we started our day trolling the shallow water, catching 1/2 of our limit and then while it was still fairly early in the day we put out our Trophy Fish spread with 22 rods and trolled for a few hours in the deeper water. The results were excellent, before we even had 6 rods in the water we had landed a 45inch/ 41lbs. Fall Trophy. Over the next three hours we had 15 bites and landed 13 of them. 8 of the bites were without a doubt Trophy fish and of these 8 “big bites” we landed 6. The 6 we landed ranged from (30″ to 45″). The other 7 fish we caught trolling with big baits were between 25″ and 27.5″ and they were all carefully released to fight another day.
Hopefully this is just a taste of what is to come this Fall. It sure was nice hearing the drag rip out today. Here are the dates that I still have open this fall………
