2006 Fishing Reports

Sorry for the delay, but what a way to end the 2006 season!!!  We captured our limit of trophy Rockfish every trip in December with the exception of one day when the wind did not allow us to fish the most productive waters.  The fishing in the Point Lookout South area this December was simply awesome.  It has been 4 or 5 years since we have had fishing this good in December.  My only regret was that I did not see it coming and have booked trips later into the month.  Several photos showcase the great fishing from December 2006.

Big changes are planned for “MISS SUSIE CHARTERS” in 2007!!!!!  Be sure to check back during the next few weeks to see what “new” we are offering for 2007 and how we are improving and expanding our business.  I also promise to soon report on “Fishing the Bay in 2006” with an overview of another great season on the Chesapeake Bay.

Point Lookout Area

Well the fishing continues to improve, it is now what I would consider excellent.  And the best part of the story is that the fish are being caught in many different areas from a few miles north of Point Lookout all the way to the Bay Bridge Tunnel.  And in many areas there are bites happening where it is what charter capts consider “wide open”.  With multiple big fish hook ups at one time and lots of action.  The fishing has been so good the last two days that I would say that it is as good as our Spring Trophy Season.  In fact several other capts and myself agree that there appear to be more trophy Stripers in the lower Chesapeake Bay area this late Fall then we have seen in probably 4 or 5 years.  And with pleanty of bait here to hold them in our area, fishing should continue to be very good for at least a few more weeks. We are also starting to see a few more of the Big Trophy fish.  Yesterday we had two Trophies over 43″ .  So don’t delay and pick a date today so you can load the freezer with fresh Rockfish fillets for the winter.  Here are the dates that are still available……..

This late fall season is turning out to be like most late fall trophy seasons.  With good overall catches with some very good days and a few days where you need to put your time in to grind out 5 or 6 Trophy fish.  We moved the MISS SUSIE to Point Lookout Marina on the 17th to be closer to where the best bites have been occurring.  We will be fishing out of Point Lookout through December 17th.  With trophy fish still being caught north of Point Lookout and other fish which seem to be working their way north in several areas from the Bridge Tunnel to Point Lookout, fishing should continue to be good and I believe it may even kick wide open over the next few weeks.  The presence of pleanty of bait also makes the next few weeks look promising, because the fish have something to hold them here in our area.  I have to apoligize for not taking as many photos as I should.  I will try and snap a bunch more shots for my next report.  There are still a few dates avialable to get out and catch your December trophy.  So round up your fishing crew and lets go catch a box full of trophy rockfish.  Here are the dates………..

Well the fishing certainly has improved.  Today fishing was excellent!!!  By 9:15 AM we had boated 6 Stripers over 37 inches with the largest being just under 40 inches.  We had three of these trophy fish hooked up at one time today, it was just awesome.  Once again the fish had sea lice on them (a sign that they are fresh from the Ocean).  Several other good charter captains reported excellent catches also today, despite the dense fog.  It looks like this late Fall may turn out to be much better than the last few late Novembers and Decembers.  We cancelled for tomorrow(11/16/2006) because of the forcasted 30 knot winds from the South and we will be back at it Friday(11/17/2006).  I only have a few select dates available for the rest of this Chesapeake Bay Season, here they are……………..

Well November has turned out so far to be like Novembers of years past.  With some excellent fishing for a few days and then slow for a few days.  The presence of the 18″ to 26″ fish helped us a few days to put some meat in the box when trolling for the “big boys” did not work out.  On other days we went for the small fish (18″ to 26″) first and left a few slots open and then went after the “bubbas.”  Tuesday Nov. 7th was our best day so far on the “bubbas”.  That day we landed two fish that measured right at 48inches, one weighed 42lbs and the other weighed 41lbs.  We also had some other nice fish from 20″ to 38″ that day.  The wind did not allow us to do much on the 12th and the 13th.  But we got out on Tuesday the 14th and had our limit for a small three person party by 11:00 AM, the fish measured between 24inches up to 38inches.

I believe that the Ocean Run fish (Migratory Stock) are just starting to arrive.  Three of the fish we caught today had Sea Lice on them, so they have not been in the Bay long.  As more and more of these fish work North, the fishing should improve daily.  Several other boats also had good catches today (11/14/06), so things are looking up and as with all November and December trips that chance at a 50 pound plus fish is present at any time.   We only have a few dates still available for fishing the Bay this Season.  Those dates are……….

Late October has always been a time for change and this year is no exception, especially with much cooler temperatures.  The live linning remained strong thru about the 23rd of October.  On the 27th we switched over to trolling shallow water structure and had very good results finding Rockfish from 18inches to 32inches that were hungry and willing to bite.  The 28th and 29th we fished in the Patuxent River because of high winds and scratched out our limit of 18″ to 24″ fish both days.  We had Monday the 30th off and today (10/31/06) we started our day trolling the shallow water, catching 1/2 of our limit and then while it was still fairly early in the day we put out our Trophy Fish spread with 22 rods and trolled for a few hours in the deeper water.  The results were excellent, before we even had 6 rods in the water we had landed a 45inch/ 41lbs. Fall Trophy.  Over the next three hours we had 15 bites and landed 13 of them.  8 of the bites were without a doubt Trophy fish and of these 8 “big bites” we landed 6.  The 6 we landed ranged from (30″ to 45″).  The other 7 fish we caught trolling with big baits were between 25″ and 27.5″ and they were all carefully released to fight another day.
Hopefully this is just a taste of what is to come this Fall.  It sure was nice hearing the drag rip out today.  Here are the dates that I still have open this fall………

With the cooler temperatures comes change.  As for the live linning for Rockfish the cooler temps have brought a decent number of trophy sized fish (28″ to 38″) into the areas we have been live linning.  These fish are not the migratory trophies that we will see later in November and December but instead they are the resident “big fish” that are very elsusive and only caught at certain times of the year.  The action continues to be red hot and with the addition of a few trophies swimming around, it has been great fun the last few trips.  Catching a 30″ plus Rockfish on a spinning rod with live bait surelly is a great challenge and accomplishment.  I think the live linning should continue to produce for about another two weeks as it did last year.  Then we will switch to chumming and/or trolling.  By early November we should have a decent number of the ocean-run migratory fish in our area and we will begin trolling our “big stuff” in the deeper water going for the late fall trophies.  Our goal this fall is to catch one that beats our 57 pounder we caught last November.
The cooler weather has slowed the Bluefish bite.  But they are still here and with some time put into fishing for them respectable catches can be made.  The White Perch fishing has been heating up with the dropping temperatures.  If you want your chance to catch a trophy sized fish on light tackle get out with us soon and we will do our best to make it happen.  As for the late fall Trophies we only have a few days still open so get one before they are all gone……………

It is often hard to describe how “good” fishing is at a given time.  Well fishing is excellent right now and a comment from a new customer of mine who fished with me Monday the 2nd on a 1pm trip put things into perspective.  As we were saying our goodbyes and shaking hands he looked me in the eyes and said….. “I am 74 years old and I have been fishing the Chesapeake Bay my whole life and that was the best fishing trip that I have ever been on.”  I politely said Thank You and went on to clean a dirty boat.  While cleaning the boat I thought about what was just said and I felt very thankful for having played a part in making that statement a reality.

Fishing really is that good right now, on days when the wind does not blow real hard we have been catching between 40 and 75 Bluefish from 4lbs to 10lbs in about two hours time.  That is after loading up on nice Rockfish (19″ to 26″) using live Spot.  With all the Rockfish and Bluefish now in our area it seems to me that we should have pleanty of fish to keep our fish box full until the November Trophies show up in a few weeks.  With the weather cooling and the fishing this good dates are going fast.  Below is a list of open dates, as you will see the Trophy dates in November and December are almost all gone….

The 2006 fishing season as a whole has been excellent, but the fishing that we are experiencing right now is truely unbelivable.  On Friday the 22nd we caught our limit of Rockfish (19″ to 25″) and carefully released a dozen non-deep hooked keeper sized fish in about 20 minutes time.  They were all caught on light tackle spinning rods using live Spot for bait.  After catching our Rockfish we headed out to catch some Bluefish and with in an hour and one half we caught 60 Blues from 4 to 10 lbs.  Then we went bottom fishing to replinish the bait that we used and try for a few of the Jumbo Spot.  The bait sized Spot bit good and we also caught about one dozen of the Jumbo Spot.  Simply an awesome day on the Bay.  Saturday and Sunday the Rockfishing was just as good but the extreme winds did not allow us to put much time in for the Bluefish.  On Saturday we caught around 10 Blues and on Sunday we caught around 20 Blues from 3 to 7 lbs.  With better weather on Monday we quickly caught our Rockfish again and then caught 40 Blues from 3 to 7 lbs before the fishing party said they had enough Blues.  On Tuesday we did just a half day afternoon trip and first caught our bait Spot and then quickly caught our Rockfish and then headed for home, making a quick stop just outside the mouth of the Patuxent River and trolled up 12 Blues from 2 to 4 lbs.

I don’t know for sure how long this great fishing will continue, but it sure is fun.  I do expect the live lining for the Rockfish to continue through probably the 3rd week of October.  As for the Bluefish, it is hard to tell, but I think it is safe to say that we will have them for at least two more weeks.

If you want to go fishing this fall, now is the time.  It does not get any better than this.  The live lining for Rockfish (20″ to 28″) is as good as it gets.  And the fish are not just biting in one special “spot”, the bite is excellent in several places.
In addition to the Rockfish, we found the “motherload” of big Bluefish (4 to 9lbs) today.  We landed fifty of these hard fighters in just one hour.  These fish should also continue to bite for another two weeks or so.

The last two weeks have been very interesting on the Chesapeake Bay.  Tropical Storm Ernesto apperred to have really hurt fishing on the day after the storm.  But fishing has improved dramatically since the storm.  With the exception of the day after the storm, we have been very easily catching our limits of nice Rockfish from 19″ to 26″ with a few 30″ plus fish.  Live Spot are still doing the trick.  After catching our limit of Rockfish on Tues the 12th we gave Flounder fishing a try and caught over 30, but only had two over the 15″ min.  After about an hour of Flounder fishing, our drift slowed to about nothing so we decided to go looking for breaking fish.  And we found the “motherload”.  We first started trolling through the schools, catching about 8 Spanish Mackeral and 20 Bluefish.   And after a few passes, our fishing party decided they wanted to use the light tackle to catch these fish.  So we broke out the light spinning tackle and for two hours they caught fish after fish.  With the jigging spoons, most of the fish were Rockfish (12″ to 26″) which we carefully released, and the rest were Bluefish from 2 to 4 lbs.  On Thursday the 14th after quickly catching a nice limit of Rockfish, our party wanted to give Flounder fishing a good few hour effort.  We caught at least 40 Flounder, with 5  being over the 15″ min.

It looks like the great live lining action is going to continue for a few more weeks, there seem to be pleanty of Rockfish to catch and they are biting in several locations.  The breaking fish are out there and we should have Mackeral and Bluefish to catch jigging and trolling for the next few weeks.

I would like to start this report with, “I am sorry for not keeping up on my report and not taking as many photos as I should have.”  August was a hetic month for me, I took a vacation for a week and a half during the middle of the month and early in the month I was busy fishing and getting ready for my trip.  As for the fishing in the Bay over the past month, it has been very good.  Live lining Spot produced a limit of Rockfish from 18 inches to 28 inches for every one of our 15 charters this August.  Upon my return from vacation, I was also greeted with the arrival of Spanish Mackeral and Bluefish in our area.  On our AM trip on Saturday the 26th we landed 16 Spanish Mackeral and a handful of Bluefish in addition to our limit of Rockfish and about 50 good sized Spot.

With the Rockfish being caught using live spot in a few locations I look to see the live lining bite to remain strong through September.  As for the Mackeral and Bluefish, fishing for them should just get better as we get into September.  Both Spanish Mackeral and Bluefish prefer salty water and with the dry weather as of late, the salinity levels in the Bay are high which normally means great fishing for both species.

The Live-Lining bite continues to be as good as it gets!!!!!!!   We are quickly catching nice limits of Rockfish between 20 inches and 34 inches using live Spot as bait.  The Spot fishing is also still very good, with pleanty of nice sized Spot to fill coolers with.

This Red hot live lining bite should be good for at least a week and a half or maybe two weeks.  Get out on the Bay and give it a try it is a whole lot of fun…..

The Red Hot Live-Lining bite that we had last season at this time is back into full swing.  We have had very good catches of Rockfish between 20 inches and 36 inches using live Spot as bait.  This method of cathcing Rockfish is without a doubt the coolest way to catch Rockfish.  To use a good sized live fish to catch an even larger fish….. it just doesn’t get any better than that.

The bottom fishing for Spot in the Patuxent River continues to be very productive and an average half day bottom fishing trip with six anglers is producing 400 to 600 good sized Spot per trip.  On our Rockfish trips, we also do some bottom fishing to supply our bait for the Rockfish.

The PM Croaker fishing is still good, but the bite has gotten very late and some nights they have not been biting that great.  Because of this and the excellent day time Spot fishing close to home, we are most likley finished with our Croaker trips for the year.  This was a excellent year for Croaker and it is ending about right on schedule.

As the summer’s heat finally shows up the fishing continues to be very good for all of the species that we have been targeting.  Including:  Rockfish, Bluefish, Spot and Croaker.  The livelining with Spot has been very productive for Rockfish 20″ up to 36″.  Spot fishing in the Paxtuxent River continues to be very, very good.  There are still pleanty of 1.5 to 4lb bluefish around, on 7/15 we caught 52 in about 2 hours time.  The PM Croaker fishing is still good, but the bite has gotten later.  Some nights they don’t start biting until 9 pm.  But when they turn on, you can normally catch your limit in less than 2 hours as we did on 7/15.

The excellent summer fishing continues.  On Wednesday (7/05/06) we gave live-lining Spot a try and did well catching our limit of Rockfish in about two hours time with our keepers ranging from 20″ to 27″.  That day we also had a good catch of White Perch.  Friday PM we had a 1/2 day bottom fishing trip and we had very good catches of white perch and spot.  Saturday PM we went trolling to catch our Rockfish and did good.  On Sunday PM (7/10) we had an all evening Bottom fishing trip and we started fishing in the Pax. River and caught over 200 Spot and about 20 white perch.  We then headed south for the Croaker and by 10:15 PM we had caught our limit of 250 Croaker (10 anglers x 25 fish per man).

It looks as if the rest of this month is going to be a great time to go fishing.  The Rockfish have finally got their act back together, the Spot and White Perch are biting close to the dock, the Croaker are biting in the evenings, and even trolling for Bluefish is very good.

If you want to load the boat with a lot of fish, July is the time to go.  The Croaker bite should last thru the end of the month and the Spot/Perch fishing normally stays good thru early September.  Also we expect the Spanish Mackeral to be showing up in a couple of weeks.  These bueatiful, tasty fish are caught mixed in with surface feeding Rockfish and Bluefish in August and September.

The huge storm system that pounded our area for several days finally had its impact on our fishing.  On Tuesday (6/27) afternoon we went back to the area where we had been quickly catching our limits of rockfish and the fish were gone.  We struggled to catch a few keepers and decided to try another day with hopefully nicer weather.  On the AM of Wed (6/28) the weather finally broke, but the Rockfishing was difficult.  We did manage to catch our limit of two over 18″ but we had to work for them.  We did however take a break from Rockfishing in the middle of the trip and we loaded up on white perch bottom fishing.  These tasty smaller fish ranged from 7″ to 13″.  They fight very good for their size.  We ended up with close to 70 perch in just over an hour’s time.

On our PM trip on (6/28) we headed down the Bay searching for Bluefish and Croaker.  We found good numbers of both.  We trolled up 84 Bluefish from 2 to 5lbs in just under 2 hours.  Then we made one long drift for Croakers and caught 118 from 12″ to 19″.

On Friday (6/30) we went for Rockfish and once again we managed to get our limit.  We caught a few keepers trolling and the rest of our limit we caught light tackle Chumming.

On our Saturday and Monday PM trips we also did very good catching between 50 and 60 Bluefish and also catching between 120 and 160 Croakers.
The Rockfish should be getting their act together now and we are going to try livelining for them this week.  The Bluefishing on the afternoon trips should also remain strong.  The good PM Croaker fishing normally stays strong thru the third or fourth week of July. The White perch and Spot fishing are also red hot now and it should continue thru early September.

June continues to be a very productive month for Rockfish and Croaker, and also, as of the last few days Norfolk Spot and Bluefish.  The chumming action that we had been experiencing came to an abrupt stop on June 16 and has not started up since then.  So we had to switch gears and break out our jigging rods and when necessary our trolling rods.  Since we switched up the fishing has been outstanding with pleanty of Rockfish from 18″ to 26″.

On our June 20 PM trip we decided to give Bluefishing a try before we went for Croaker and we did very well.  We caught over 50 Bluefish from 2 to 5lbs in two hours.  Because of the high winds and storms we have not been able to make it down the Bay to go for Bluefish or Croaker since that trip.  It seems as if this strong southerly wind will not let up,  luckily the Rockfish are located close to the dock and the Spot are in the protected waters of the Patuxent River.

With the good numbers of Spot around, hopefully we can get into some live lining for Rockfish soon.  The good Bluefishing should continue thru October and the PM Croaker bite is normally very good through most of July.  The Spot fishing should remain strong thru Sept.  Here are the dates that are still available………..

The red hot PM bottom fishing for Croaker continues, as well as good light-tackle chumming action for Rockfish.  Tuesday & Wednesday evenings the Croaker bite was early and we were limited out by 8:30 pm.  Thursday thru Sunday the bite was later but we still had very good catches (our limit or close to our limit).

Wednesday AM we had an outstanding catch of light tackle Trophy Rockfish.  We had our limit of over 28″ fish and even had to throw back two fish over 28″ while finishing out our limit of the 18″ – 28″ fish.  Our biggest was 35″ a true light tackle Trophy!!!  The chumming bite was slower but still good over the weekend even with the boat pressure.

As for Flounder fishing, we caught three on Wednesday and we should be giving them a try again this week.  The good Croaker fishing should continue through mid July. Here are the PM dates that we still have available………… June  15, 19,  22, 25, 28, 29; July 2, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16

As expected the evening bottom fishing for Croaker has started with a bang.  On our first Croaker trip of the season 5/31 after quickly catching our limit of Rockfish Chumming, we caught our limit of croaker (200 Fish, 25 per man) in about an hour and a half.  The next day 6/1 we did good catching 95 by 9:15, we left them biting because our party had to get on the road.  On 6/2 our Croaker plans were scratched because of the Thunderstorms.  On our 6/3 and 6/4 trips we did the half day Rockfishing thing and caught a few up to 30 inches on light tackle.

Our PM trip on Monday the 5th was a trip that was simply amazing.  We left the dock at 4pm and by 8pm we had captured our limit of Rockfish for 7 passengers and also our limit of Croaker.  That is 14 Rockfish (19″–26″) and 175 Croaker.  What is so amazing about this trip was how early in the evening the Croaker bit.  Normally they will start their bite around 8 or 9pm, last nite they started at 6:30pm.

The Croaker this season are of very good size, many of them are 16″ to 19″, the rest are between 13″ and 16″.  All of which are great fun on light tackle, especially when you get a double hittter.  These fish also make great table fare when filleted and fried or baked.  Fish cleaning is available even when we have tons of fish!!!!!

The Light-Tackle action for good sized Rockfish continues.  On both trips Friday and Saturday and our Sunday trip the Chumming was spectacular, with fast action and fish up to 34 inches.  On Saturday afternoon after catching our limit of nice Rockfish chumming we found a school of “breaking” Rockfish.  We quickly rigged up for light tackle jigging and casting and our fishing party had a blast catch and releasing Rockfish after Rockfish from 17″ to 27″.

So far this year my afternoon charters have not wanted to get home late, so we have not done the Croaker fishing thing yet.  I do know, however, that the Capt.s  who are fishing for them are reporting very good catches.  We should start Croaker fishing Wed the 31st.

Beat the Summer Heat, get out on the Bay in June, you are sure to have a Blast!!!!!!!!!

The 2006 Trophy Season ended with good fishing.  We caught our limit of Trophies through Saturday the 13th and on Sunday the 14th we were well on our way to our limit when we had to head home early because of a seasick crew member.

As expected we started light tackle chumming on Thursday the 18th, we tried an area which normally holds fish this time of year and we came up empty.  We resorted to trolling to catch a few fish.  But on Friday the 19th we went looking for another “chumming” spot and this spot was loaded with nice Rockfish between 18″ and 36″.  Great fun on light tackle.  We have fished this area for the past week and have done very well.  The average size of these fish 25″ to 26″ which is a great average size for light tackle chumming.

The PM Croaker bite South of Solomons is just kicking off and the boats who have fished for them are reporting very good catches.  Our first Rock/ Croaker Trip is scheduled for this coming Saturday.

Due to cancellations Sunday May 28 AM & Saturday June 3 PM are now available for charter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The red hot Trophy Rockfishing slowed over the big tournament weekend, however the trolling bite is not over.  We continue to catch our limits almost every trip with only one exception.  Due to an auto accident that my girlfriend was in I have had to cancel a few trips and have had to have other Capt’s run my boat for two trips.  That is why there are a few gaps in the photos.  She is recovering now and because of her parents being there for her, I am now back on the boat and fishing hard.

Today (5/11) we had a party of 11 anglers and we captured our limit reasonably quickly and were back at the dock by 10:45 am.  The high winds caused me to re-book my afternoon charter.  There are still some large Trophies around; yesterday we caught a 43″ and a 41″

We will continue to troll for the Trophy Rockfish through the 15th.  And starting on the 16th we will switch to chumming if the Trohy Trolling bite has gone down hill.  We still have a few openings for next week and the following week (your best chance of the year to catch 28″ ++ Rockfish on light tackle).

We still have May 15, 16, 17,& (18 am) open if you are interested in a last chance effort to catch some Spring Trophy Rockfish, or if the trolling bite is over, we will be chumming for nice size Rock on light tackle.

May  24, 29, 30 as well as June 12, 13, 19, 20, 22, 26, 27, 28, 28 are still available for 3 or 4 pm charters going for light tackle Rock and Croakers.

To the suprise to some people the Trophy Rockfishing continues to be red hot.  Many fisherman thought that the mild Spring temperatures would lead to a very short Trophy Season, but perhaps the past few days of cooler weather will keep them around a while longer.

Fishing has been very good, some days it is so good that we have been able to do some catch and release looking for a “big one”.  A few trips we have even had the bite so good that everyone in a 6 person party got to reel in 4 keepers each and we were still back at the dock at an early hour.  Other days we pluck a them and catch one here, one there 20 minutes later, and so on.  But all in all it has been a great Spring and I believe it will continue thru mid May.  Perhaps we will have to head South, but I think we should be able to catch our limit of Trophy fish thru the 15, 16, 17… of May.  The three major Tournaments are going to make fishing a little tougher over the upcoming weekend because of all the pressure on the fish, but hopefully by Monday things will be back into action.

We still have May 15, 16, 17 open if you are interested in a last chance effort to catch some Spring Trophy Rockfish, or if they happen to be gone, we will be chumming for nice size Rock on light tackle.

The fishing continues to be excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It actually seems to be getting better every day.  In the past few days we have caught our fish so quickly that we are able to leave a slot or two open and try for a “Big One”.  While doing this we are catching and releasing many nice fish.  On days when the bite is red hot this allows our trips to last a little longer and often allows each angler the chance to reel in 2 or 3 keepers each.

This afternoon (4-25-06) we had our best average size yet, with several fish over 40 inches and one measuring 47.5″.  The ratio of keepers to throw-backs has also improved over the last few days, with most of our catch being over the new 33″ mark.

This great fishing should continue for at least two more weeks, but hopefully all the way until the end of the Trophy Season (May 15th).

As with the first few days of the season, the Planar Board lines and the long lines are catching a large majority of our fish.  Doulble Parachutes and Umbrella Rigs are both producing very well.

We still have a few dates available for the late May light tackle Rockfishing Trips and also for the late May PM Rockfishing and Croaker Trips.  This is our best chance of the entire season to catch Trophy Rockfish on spinning rods.  The dates we have available are:  (Tues May 16), (Wed May 17), (Sun May 21 PM), (Tues May 23), (Wed May 24), (Thurs May 25 AM), (Fri May 26 PM), (Mon May 29(Memorial Day), (Tues May 30).

The 2006 Rockfish season opened with a bang.  Nice weather and plenty of fish.  On our opening day AM charter we landed 37 Rockfish over 28″ with all but 8 of those being over the new 33″ size limit.  Saturday’s PM trip, both trips Sunday and Monday consisted of great fishing with a good number of keepers and also pleanty of throwbacks (27″-32.99″).

Our largest fish so far was caught on Monday AM, she measured 49.5″, but because she was post spawn she only weighted 44.5 lbs.  This same fish a week or two earlier would of broke the elusive 50 lb mark.

Tuesday (4-18-06) was another great day on both trips, with 90% of our fish being over the 33″ mark.  In fact fishing was so good today that we threw back a fair number of keepers on both trips to make the trip last a little longer.

I am not sure how long this great bite will last, because of our warm temperatures, but it sure is good now!!!!

We are now booking trips for light-tackle AM Rockfish trips and PM light-tackle Rockfish and Croaker trips for the last two weeks of May and the month of June.  Dates are going fast, so if you are interested please give me a call as soon as possible to ensure that you get the date you want.

Sorry for the lack of shots from the boat while fishing but it has been a bit chaotic with great fishing.

Well the job of converting the “Miss Susie” from a twin engine to a single engine has turned out to be a lot of hard work.  But we are making progress and in addition to the engine conversion we are also beefing up the structural frame work of the boat as well as installing new larger fuel tanks.  We are also installing a brand new very comfortable toilet, as well as a sound system with 4 new good quality speakers and a stero that my i-pod will hook to.  So look foward to great tunes in 2007 as well as great fishing.

If you are interested in a Spring Charter, the dates are nearly all booked up.  So contact me asap.  I still have 6 openings(dates) for the Catch and Release Pre-Season, light tackle trips.  As for the catch and keep Trophy Trips, I have a few dates the week of May 14 to May 18.  With the cold weather we now have, I think we should be catching the Trophy Fish at least through Friday May 18th.  I also still have availability for the last two weeks of May.  The year before last we caught the Trophy Fish almost the entire month of May and last year we had excellent light tackle chumming for Rockfish from 18″ to 38″.  So reguardless of how quick it warms up this spring the last two weeks of May is a great time to get out on the Bay.  We will start our PM Rock and Croaker Trips towards the end of May and this is a great time to book these trips as well, because Croaker are a strange fish.  That is, they are nocturnal by nature, and the hotter the weather the more nocturnal they become.  In other words they bite earlier in the afternoon in late May than they do in Mid July.  This means that we will often times be loaded up with both Rockfish and Croaker and still be back at the dock at a resonable time (9 to 10pm).  June is also starting to book up quickly for the evening trips.
